Anubis is my favorite egyptian god.  The ancient egyptians called him Ienpw(pronounced Yinepu). The meaning of his name is unknown. The oldest egyptians have prayers carved in their walls and pyramids. A standard offering formula for the dead in the Old Kingdom began thusly:

“An offering which the king gives and Anubis, who is upon his mountain and in the place of embalming, the lord of the necropolis….”

Anubis was the lord of the dead. All of Anubis’s original titles were taken to Osiris.  When Osiris died, Anubis took the role of the measuring hearts against the feather of ma’at as “He Who Counts the Hearts”.If the heart was pure, Anubis guides it to Osiris. If the heart was heavy with sins then it is fed to Ammit and the soul was distroyed.

“As Imy-ut, or “He Who is In the Place of Embalming”, Anubis is the embalmer who washes the entrails of the dead and guards over their physical bodies as well as the places that house them”

Where Anubis comes from is a mystery. In one century, he is the son of Nephthys and Ra. In another he is the son of Hesat and Bastet and has a daughter in the form of the goddess Qeb-hwt.

Anubis is most recongnized as a man with the head of a canid and pointed ears. It is rare that he is shown fully human although there are cases of this.

Anubis was worshipped throughout Egypt, but the center of his cult was in Cynopolis (Upper Egypt).

My name is not to be given out or your lives will be in danger. I’m going to be typing up the essays and assignments that my teacher, Ms.Matzke, gives us. This is so far the most interesting thing that happened to me in the time I’m in high school. I, personally, am very happy and excited to be using such a website that is not Myspace. I hope to hear your comments soon. Enjoy!
